Back-to-Back Supercars Driven on Track (Video)
This video is the epitome of “drive it like it’s meant to be driven” and it happens to be around the Nurburgring Grand Prix Circuit.
One of the luckiest men alive, Tim Burton aka “Shmee”, took along a bunch of cameras to share a wonderful day with the Internet. How wonderful? What about driving a Porsche 911 GT3, Aston Martin Vantage GT8, Mercedes-AMG GT R, and McLaren 675LT back-to-back? How about on a track? And what if that track was the Nurburgring Grand Prix Circuit? Yep. It’s not a quick watch, but it’s a ton of fun to watch. And listen to, especially in the Aston Martin’s case.

Porsche 911 GT3
First, he takes the Porsche 911 GT3 out. As he slings the GT3 around the GP track Burton explains that he bought this car for this kind of driving. He then adds, “it has to be said, it ticks all the boxes I wanted it to tick! It is utterly brilliant and so precise.” The GT3 is straight up fast, and precise.
Aston Martin Vantage GT8
Next, it’s the Alcantara-draped Aston Martin Vantage GT8. Burton is absolutely over the moon about the sound and the character of the GT8. He points out that it’s a new car that still feels like an old car. The steering is heavy, the sound is heavenly, it’s got a manual gearbox, and, “it forces you to manhandle it.” In a bit of a dig against the new cars with their excessive driver aids, he says, unlike newer cars that make the driver look like a hero, despite their driving skill, or lack thereof. The Vantage isn’t having any of that.
Mercedes-AMG GT R
After, “the hysterics of the silliest vehicle known to mankind” he takes the AMG GT R out for a spin. A bit unexpected is how unhelpful the car’s safety nannies are while on a racetrack. First, he gets an alert from the automatic braking system. Normally, having the car brake automatically when a car ahead suddenly brakes heavily would be a good thing, but not on a racetrack for obvious reasons. Burton quickly, and rather impressively, navigates to the proper menu and disables the auto braking setting. Then, the seatbelt tightens up as he brakes hard into a turn after the straight on the circuit. Yep, the AMG is as much a great touring streetcar as a track toy. Just turn off those nannies before you get on track!
“I don’t think there is any other car that is so easy to drive from the off as easy as the GT R,” Burton says. Hop in and nearly anyone can push the car and have fun.
McLaren 675LT
To cap off quite possibly the best afternoon ever, he takes out his McLaren 675LT. These things are pretty rare with only 500 built. Think 650S, but with more power and less weight, but still the trick active-aerodynamics. Burton takes it easy for the first lap or two, so he gets a feel for the car. The tires are apparently not great when cold, so he eases into things. Particularly watch how fast those shifts are. The McLaren is mind-blowingly quick at changing gears.
The 675LT is easily the fastest of the four, letting him hit 240 kph on the front straight consistently when the others are only getting just above 200 kph. That’s 125 to 150 mph!
If you could drive even one of these on a track, which would you choose?
