Of Course a Cop Owns the First Legal U.S. R34 Skyline

The irony here is too good to even make up. The first owner of a legally imported R34 Nissan Skyline GT-R, which was largely popularized in the U.S. by movies about illegal street racing, is owned by a police officer. His name is Matt, and he lives in Denver, Colorado.

Thanks to the Environmental Protection Agency‘s 25-year exemption rule, non-U.S.-market cars can be imported into the country once they’re 25 years old. Matt wasted absolutely no time once those 25 years were up and imported the car from Canada, literally driving the car across the border at on January 1, 2015 at 12:01 a.m.

Interestingly enough, Godzilla was his fall-back. He originally wanted to get a 2009 Nissan GT-R, but prices never dipped into his range. So, he remembered the 25 years were almost up on the R34s and began researching.

He’s been a car guy pretty much his entire life, and began building muscle cars when he was just a teenager. His other notable prize was a Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 that he owned and built up when he was younger. We like his style.
