GT Racing at 2016 Grand Prix of Long Beach
For the 42nd time, the streets of downtown Long Beach, California were transformed into a challenging race course, and hosted a weekend filled with action, shenanigans and beautiful racing machines.
While IndyCar headlines the Grand Prix of Long Beach with its race on Sunday, my favorite day to attend is Saturday because that’s when all the latest and greatest GT cars are on track for the IMSA Bubba Burger Sports Car Grand Prix.
This would be my first time seeing the new Ford GT race car in person, along with the new Ferrari 488 GTE.
But before we got to experience the IMSA race, the Pirelli World Challenge teams took to the track for a few practice laps.
Later in the afternoon, the field of GT and Prototype cars proceeded to tear up the streets of Long Beach for the next hour and 40 minutes.
The roar of these machines could be heard all over downtown.
If you’ve never been or haven’t been in a while, it’s worth making an effort to attend next year’s Grand Prix of Long Beach — it’s a motorhead’s dream weekend.
