Dealers Are Actually Selling the 2020 Toyota Supra For $200K in Florida
This is not a joke, you read the title correctly. Dealerships from day one have begun to literally bleed the Supra dry for a profit.
The new Toyota Supra might be the most hyped vehicle to come out of Japan in a very long time. Along with that hype comes some unwanted annoyances for potential buyers: severe markups from dealers. Due to the fact that Supras are now actively on showroom floors, dealers have begun deciding what they think the cars are worth, completely disregarding the MSRP.
This is far from a novel idea and in the past couple of years we have seen this heinous practice done with a variety of cars including the Dodge Demon and Honda Civic Type R. Believe it or not, dealerships are still charging 5-10k over MSRP for Type R’s to this day and it was released over two years ago in 2017. Crazy right? Well, not enough apparently. A certain dealership in Vero Beach, Florida, felt the need to do their standard markup, but decidedly added more than a couple of zeros out at the end of it. The total price of this Renaissance Red Launch Edition 2020 Supra? $198,563.
In my opinion, they collectively decided to take the one Supra that they luckily got for inventory and determined its price via a random number generator between 49,995 and 300,000. How else would you come up with the price point of $198,563? According to Jalopnik, they called the dealer to ask about the Supra and pricing and the dealership confirmed that the price was not a mistype. Supposedly, they have “received serious interest” at this literally obscene price.
We don’t believe that even in the slightest, considering you could buy new McLaren 570S for less money than a Toyota Supra. Since this post, the dealership supposedly had taken the ad down. Autoweek said they had called the dealership and they stated that the reason it was taken down was because the car sold. Something else we don’t believe because the exact same Renaissance Red Launch Edition was relisted and is currently in their inventory.
They thought they had us fooled, not so much. As disgusting as these practices are, there will be somebody where will be willing to pay some price above MSRP for the clout, seemingly. However, maybe a couple thousand, not literally 150,000 dollars over sticker. What do you guys think of this crazy situation with the Toyota Supra? Will it be the next Civic Type R as far as marking up on pricing goes? We can only wait and see.
