Will Formula One Soon Bring a Second Race to the U.S.?

A U.S. driver and another U.S. team might be in store in the near future of Formula One.
The 2019 Formula One season has been as exciting as ever. Mercedes has been continuing its dominance, but in the recent races Red Bull has been giving both Ferrari and Mercedes a little bit of a reality check. The Hungarian GP saw a victory for reigning champion Lewis Hamilton and now we take the month long break in the middle of the season as we wait for Spa-Francorchamps and the Belgian GP in September.
This year might look decided, but you can never know for sure. What is definitely undecided is the future of the U.S. and its role in Formula One. According to Racer Magazine, the next step in the sport’s U.S. expansion will be adding a second U.S. race. Let’s go over a couple of more details in relation to that.

As most know, American company Liberty Media made the purchase of the Formula One Group in a couple of years ago in 2016 and has drastically changed the way the sport operates in the modern multi-media landscape. The have a plan to help the sport grow in the U.S. and that plan begins with a national expansion. There are two options that Liberty Media is considering for the location of a second F1 race and it has come down to either Miami or Las Vegas, both cities with huge cash influxes and tourist attractions.
Neither of these venues is guaranteed currently, but F1 CEO Chase Carey stated that the discussions with both cities are ongoing as well as with potential teams that may want to join the sport. This idea will be especially lucrative when the new 2021 team spending regulations go into place, forcing manufactures to have a hard cap on their spending.

Chase has stated that the expansion is important to Liberty and they have noticed the influx of audiences for the sport in the U.S. since they acquired the company. He states that they would love to add a high-profile U.S. team in the near future as well, hopefully, alongside a U.S. driver. Although this may not happen anytime soon, it is good to know that the company is keeping the idea friendly and conscious.

First things first, Chase states that the first real step will be to add an additional race in Miami or Las Vegas and go on from there. We are excited to see what can be done to engage the fans within the U.S. What do you guys think of adding a second date to the U.S. F1 calendar? Let us know in the comments below.
