Insane E90 M3 Drift Car Gets a Shake Down
Australian man Jake “DriftSquid” Jones, part-time professional drifter and full-time professional hoon, is here to slay all the tires. In his spare time, the DriftSquid has participated in D1GP, D1NZ, ADGP, the Redbull DriftShifters events, Redbull China Drift and FormulaDrift Asia amongst others. Sounds like a busy guy. His latest drift car build has been teased on Facebook, and it’s here at last. The E90 M3 is an unusual choice for a D1 drift car, and we love that, however, there is more than meets the eye with this one.
What Makes This E90 So Insane?
Many things, but thanks for asking! Appearance-wise, the body appears swollen thanks to a Liberty Walk widebody kit. Those wide hips are adding some 10″ worth of overall width to the car. In the case of this E90 the Liberty Walk kit extends to the carbon fiber add-ons in the form of a splitter; hood and duckbill rear lip which add to the racey effect. As-is the case for most race cars, the interior is gutted, with the exception of a competition-spec roll cage. Rounding it off is a set of Yokohama wheels wrapped in, obviously, Yokohama tires: AD08R’s in this case.
Where things get really wild is under the skin of this E90. Notice the intercooler above? That’s right, this thing is turbocharged. However, instead of boosting the S65 V8 engine, get ready for this: they swapped in an RB26 from an R34 Skyline GT-R. It’s oddly appropriate that the engine builder, Powertune Australia, swapped an inline-6 engine into this Bimmer. After all, when one thinks BMW, straight-sixes are what come to mind for most. Anecdotes aside, from there, the motor was taken out to 2.8L, fitted with a massive turbo and tuned to produce 1,000 horsepower.
Here’s what 1,000 horsepower worth of angry straight six can do to those Advans:
