As of now, every single car in Fiat USA’s lineup is a variation of the 500. The 500, the 500X, the 500L, the 500 Abarth, etc. But that has changed, as Fiat introduced a reincarnation of the 124 Spider at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

It’s been about a decade since there was a roadster in the Fiat range, last seen in the Barchetta in 2005. The 124 Spider, however, hasn’t been seen since its production run between 1966 and 1985 ended. With the help of the Mazda Miata, the 124 Spider returns for 2017 (that still feels super weird to type).

Here’s what we know:

  • It’s going to be sold worldwide.
  • It’ll basically be an MX-5 in a new body. Like the old 124, the spied body has a more flat, elongated look, as opposed to the Miata’s rounded tightly packaged body.
  • The interior will have a nearly identical setup.
  • There will be both automatic and manual variations.
  • The car will likely feature an upgraded version of the 500 Abarth’s 1.4-liter turbo-four (160 horsepower and 170 lb-ft of torque).
  • An Abarth 124 Spider is expected to borrow the Alfa Romeo 4C’s 1.7-liter turbo-four (237 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque). This would be holy-shit amazing.
