Ferrari Goes Turbo with the 2015 California T

A quick little history lesson here. It’s been almost 30 years since the last time Ferrari dug into their forced induction parts bin and pulled out their scrollers (the F40 in 1987). We’d seen the official teasers of a front-engined one off, but here we have all the combined rumors in its full glory.

The Ferrari California T dials in at a healthy 560HP through its 3.8L twin turbo engine and the video below will give a glimpse into how it sounds.

Not the most gorgeous sounding Ferrari I’ll admit, with a deeper, rough around the edges timbre. Keep in mind we’ve yet to hear the engine hit full throttle yet (we get a little glimpse towards the end of the video), but we can assume it’s not going to be anywhere near the symphonic screaming of a “proper” Ferrari engine.

Still, the 2+2 California T is a gorgeous car (with top up and down). It’s more elegant than aggressive, and the way the specs and descriptions are coming in, it’s looking to be the most every day usable of the Italian Stallions’ stable of cars.

“Ferrari promises 49% more torque with a peak output of 556 ft-lb and a fuel consumption down by 15% thanks to the boosted engine. The horsepower figure has climbed up by 70 to 560 @ 7,500 rpm.” – Jalopnik

Better gas mileage, with a more usable torque band. Nice, but hopefully not an indicator of a newsofter Ferrari for the future.
