Ferrari in Controversy with Recent Success in 2019 Formula 1 Season

By -

Ferrari F1 team principal, Mattia Binotto, would be ‘happy’ to be rivaled by a formal protest by the competition.

Recently, we posted an article about Ferrari making substantial improvements to their aerodynamic package during the tail end of the 2019 Formula 1 season. These upgrades have allowed them to extract that little bit more of performance that has helped them recently win a couple of races in a row. However, as their success has continued, the other competition has become increasingly dubious about their newfound podiums.

The other teams on the grid haven’t really been concerned with the aerodynamic upgrades we covered, but rather Ferrari’s engine improvements, which have supposedly gained them more than a little time on the straights. This advantage is supposedly 0.8 of a second depending on the track and certain members across the grid aren’t happy with that. Considering the fact that Ferrari has seen less than anything close to what would be considered a dominant season, we are surprised by the protest. Thanks to Autosport on YouTube, we get to understand some more details.

The main concern stems from a “controlled leak” from the intercooler mixing into the combustion chamber under certain conditions to extract additional power from the engine. Out of all the manufactures on the grid, Ferrari is the only one using oil within the intercooler, however, this is completely with the regulations. Another concern arised in regard to their energy recovery system, but when reviewed by the FIA, had no issues worth noting.

During the recent Mexican GP, Ferrari was threatened to be subject to some form of protest by the competition (a formal inquiry must be done during a race weekend). Ferrari team principal, Mattia Binotto, was not phased by the allegations in the slightest and stated he would be “happy” to “show them how stupid they are” if they were to bring a formal protest against the team.

Ferrari in Controversy with Recent Success in 2019 Formula 1 Season

Ferrari has long struggled since the beginning of the turbo-hybrid V6 era and only recently have been finding success in the sport. Mercedes in contrast has gone on to win 6 consecutive Constructor’s championships as well Driver’s championships. Why the Silver Arrows are not the center of speculation over the struggling Ferrari team is a interesting question in itself. It seems that the color red just attracts more attention doesn’t it?
