2019 Porsche 911 Speedster: The Last and Rarest 991.2?

By -

Limited to less than 2,000 examples, new Speedster will let you know how special it is with a 9,000 RPM 4.0L flat-six from the GT3.

The Porsche Speedster is nothing new for the brand. It actually has been around since the very first chassis for Porsche, the 356. Back in 1955, there was a different meaning to what “speed” was. This was a car that built more for Santa Monica than it was for Laguna Seca, but some people wanted a little bit of both and thus, the Speedster was born. We have to say that this variant has come a very long way since its inception. It is now without a doubt, a very fast car and has an engine with a little more than 60 horsepower.

Another key aspect of the Speedster was its limited production quantities. The car isn’t for everybody in reality, it was meant to target a very niche market of consumers. The is something that hasn’t changed from the 356 model all the way to the 991.2. This time around, there are just as little production numbers, but the car is way more “speed” than ever. Thanks to the fun crew at The Straight Pipes on YouTube, we get to learn a little more about what makes this new variant so special.

The obvious comes first, this Speedster isn’t here to play games. It is packing the 500 HP, 9,000 RPM 4.0L flat-six sourced from the 991 GT3. This car will only be paired with a stunning 6-speed manual, the proper choice for a car like this. How many of these will be built? Only 1,948 examples will be in existence, paying homage to the first-generation 356 Speedster production number.

991.2 Speedster

The Speedster for the first time is as fast as it looks, the low body line thanks to the lack of roof really give the car a sexy, elegant look. If we were to describe the car, it would be taking a GT3 chassis, turning the dial down a couple notches on the “race car” side and adding a couple notches to the “touring” side. Slap on top a beautiful body and you have the recipe for unique driver’s car that everyone will notice on a PCH cruise.

991.2 Speedster

It isn’t the car for everybody, but not everybody is buying a $275,750 limited-production Porsche. Not to mention, if you get the opportunity to own the car, it comes with a bespoke Porsche Design watch to complement your purchase. We think that’s a nice touch that boasts exclusivity. There aren’t many cars people can recognize you owning just by simply seeing your wrist-piece.
