Today we got a hold of some spy shots of the upcoming 458 Speciale Spyder, the open top version of Ferrari’s track monstering psychopath.

Gone are the days of a rag top and in are the days with a fully electric hardtop convertible. Sure it adds a bit of weight, but it also adds rigidity to the car when closed meaning there needs to be less bracing throughout the rest of the car.

This mule was spotted right outside Maranello after making a very private debut to a select few individuals at last week’s Pebble Beach Concours.

The full reveal will probably occur in October for the Paris Auto Show. The car will also likely have a new name to go with the tradition that Ferrari has made with all its other special edition convertibles like the Scuderia Spider 16M.

The car will still have the 4.5L V8 from the hardtop Speciale, but with all the air and openness you could ever want. And sure the regular Speciale sounds great with the windows down, but this puts your head practically in the engine. And that’s a great place to be in a Ferrari.
