Ye Racer broke the news that Ford is possibly prepping a return to the storied twice around the clock race in France. According to Marshal Pruett, when asked about a Ford return to LeMans, Ford’s PR Director Kevin Kennedy said “I cannot confirm or deny any part of that.” This has led Racer and a few others to believe that they are prepping a return, if it was completely out of the question, Kennedy would have most likely flatly denied the rumor. But the way he worded his answer has led everyone to believe that an announcement is forthcoming. Ford also put out a series of job announcements for aero engineers giving more credence to the rumors also.

As of right now, Ford races in the Tudor United Sportscar Championship with two DP cars powered by its new Ecoboost engines, that of Chip Ganassi and Michael Shank Racing. If they do return the two cars, if kept in their current format and spec, would compete in the P2 category. While they wouldn’t compete for the overall win, like Porsche, Audi, and Toyota, it would return Ford to LeMans after a very long period of not participating.

With the possibility of Ford and Ferrari returning to LeMans, the legendary race is looking more and more like how it used to look in the glory days during the 50’s and 60’s. I sincerely doubt we will hear anything until the end of the TUSC season at Petit LeMans at Road Atlanta in October.
