Get Ready for More Ferrari Hybrids

Ferrari LaFerrari

The Ferrari LaFerrari hybrid hypercar sold out before debuting to the public. Following that success, Ferrari Chairman Luca di Montezemolo told Bloomberg Ferrari is planning more hybrids in the future to lure the environmentally conscious. If you worry your favorite prancing-horse brand is going to jump the shark with hybrid models, fear not — Montezemolo said Ferrari will avoid producing more hybrids than customers desire.

This strategy lines up with Ferrari’s plan to shrink supply in the face of growing demand. The supercar manufacturer is only planning to sell 6,900 cars in 2013, compared to 7,318 in 2012. No more than 499 LaFerrari hypercars will be produced, 200 of which will be built this year.

We trust Luca di Montezemolo’s business strategies are sound. Since becoming Ferrari’s chairman, the brand has become a license to print money. Ferrari contributes 10 percent to parent company, Fiat’s overall operating earnings.
