Honoring Hennessey’s quarter-century anniversary of automotive prestige they’ve decided to inform the world by breaking the top speed record for convertibles. Hennessey currently holds the top speed record for a closed cabin production car with their Venom GT at 270.4 MPH so it was only natural for them to blow the roof off and stab Bugatti’s convertible record.

The French family’s record of 253 MPH with their Veyron Vitesse Spyder model was recently broken in 2013 so what we have here folks is what I call a blood-pumping arms race. The most fascinating part of this whole challenge is that Hennessey is the underfunded underdog that competes with the biggest dogs in the industry. Bugatti is controlled by Volkswagen, they have almost every possible advanced designing, testing and fabrication technique. Hennessey still out duke them and the rest of the current hypercars. See the video below to watch the record breaking.

At Naval Air Station Lemoore, Hennessey’s best run was with their Venom GT Spyder a skin-flapping extreme of 265.6 MPH. This means the open-air Venom GT Spyder is only five MPH slower at it’s top speed than its closed-cabin sibling. A closed cabin is usually more aerodynamic and increases structural rigidity. The mind blowing sound and pictures quickly build up and thrill.  The 0-60 MPH and 0-Max Speed timings weren’t compared to the hardtop; guessing it’s close. It may even be the case that without the roof the 0-100 MPH might be faster. Congratulations to HPE on their continued success looking forward to the Venom F5 hypercar releasing soon which is previewed at the end of the video.
