Back story- Stuck in traffic for some time. No overheating indication. Temp gauge normal. Performance normal. Oil was checked prior to the drive, yes, proper oil level, the same after the drive. The oil light and message as shown in the pic comes on, sometimes flickering. the lights go off with acceleration ( raised RPMS) Tested the same in neutral. Lights and indicator go off with more RPM's. Park the vehicle for a while, 15 minutes.... start it , no lights. run the vehicle short drive...no lights. Take longer drive, light comes on at traffic light stops, goes off when acceleration begins. Drove the car this past weekend for a couple of short trips, no lights. Wonder if any other DB 9 or V-12 owner has experiences the same? 2007 DB9 w/ 40,000 miles owned 14 years. Mobile1 - 0-40 was in the car. Changed the oil & filter this past week. Same issues. Weather in FL is in the upper 80'd low 90's. Thanks for any ideas or solutions.
I had a similar experience in my 2012 V12 Vantage. In brief, I’d driven to Austria shortly after a service with no problems, stopped a warm engine on a moderate uphill slope to refuel. On restarting, I got a ‘low oil level: add 1 litre’ message on the dashboard. I put a litre in, the message went away so I carried on. I wondered if being on an uphill slope caused the issue. Alternatively, a combination of a warm engine (so, not all of the oil was in the sump) and a low volume of engine oil to start with made the sensor think that there wasn’t enough oil. (This is plausible, as I’ve had no issues and no oil leaks or oil usage since).
However, at subsequent short stops on the same trip when the engine was warm (all refuelling, but I think that’s a coincidence), I got a ‘oil level sensor fault’ message on the dashboard, which also went away after leaving the engine off for a few minutes. The warning hasn’t returned, but I haven’t restarted a warm engine since.
So, my current hypothesis is that I need to change the oil level sensor, which I’ll do at the next service. If anyone else has had a similar experience and has found the cause, I’d (also) be interested to know.
