L.A. Auto Show 2019: Karma Revero GTS

We’re happy to see the classic Karma design return with 500 plus horsepower on board.
Last week, we came to you from SEMA. This week, we’re at the L.A. Auto Show. As you can imagine, being a 6 Speed Online writer is a pretty sweet gig.
One of the most hotly-anticipated debuts come from Karma Automotive, a Chinese-funded, Southern California-based startup. As you may be aware, Karma Automotive rose from the ashes of Fisker in 2014.

Fisker’s only product, the Karma, was thought of by many to be ahead of its time when it debuted in 2012. It’s telling that, even in 2019, the design still looks fresh.
The Henrik Fisker-designed silhouette has remained largely unchanged. It was only slightly updated for its new life as the Karma Revero.

The Revero GTS is a higher-performing version of the Revero GT, which was revealed earlier this year. Fisker states that the Revero GTS will be built at the $100 million Karma Innovation and Customization Center in Southern California, not too far from the convention center where we saw it for the first time.
The Revero GTS will reach 60 miles per hour in just 3.9 seconds, and has an a range of 360 miles. It’s a hybrid model, with a twin turbo three-cylinder engine supplementing the electric drivetrain. The Revero GTS is said to have an all-electric range of 80 miles.

The Revero GTS boasts twin electric motors, coupled with a BMW-sourced Twin Power Turbo 3-cylinder engine, seen on that company’s i8 hybrid sports car. Combined power from both engines is 536 horsepower and 635 lb/ft of torque.
Launch control is standard, as is torque vectoring between the twin electric motors. When launch control is activated, the speedometer will change to a stopwatch on the display, showing elapsed time as the car accelerates to 60 miles per hour. We’re happy to see that fun and whimsy isn’t the sole domain of Tesla when it comes to electric vehicle design.
We’re even more happy to see a high-performance version of the classic Karma design. However, the Revero GT it’s based on is no slouch, itself an upgraded version of the original Fisker Karma.
