Lamborghini CEO Says Maybe to Electric Cars, Then Makes Silly Comments

While Ferrari’s CEO, Sergio Marchionne has promised that for as long as he’s in charge, the Italian prancing horse will not produce SUVs, Lamborghini’s top executive admits that electric vehicle’s are the future, and they might be not he table for the raging bull.
Stefano Domenicali knows a thing or two about electrification of vehicles, after all, he was the team chief for Ferrari’s formula one team during the period when KERS and other hybrid electric power plants were introduced to the sport, perhaps it’s why he knows where the automotive world is headed.

Domenicali admitted that while he’s aware Lamborghini will have to follow suit at some point, it’s still in a very distant future, and not in the Agatha car maker’s current portfolio, even though the Lamborghini Asterion LPI 910-4 was rumored to be their first PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle). He insisted that doing so, would require investors to put lots of cash on the table, and that’s not in their business strategy at this point.
When it comes to semi-autonomous vehicles, Domenicali said, “You can’t spend your whole life sitting in a vehicle that will do everything for you. You need to be active and be the protagonist of what you’re doing, and this is the objective of Lamborghini. Normally, our customer has many cars, not only Lamborghini. I hope they can concentrate on autonomous driving with the other cars on their fleet. When you drive a Lamborghini, you have to have the passion … so I cannot think of a Lamborghini with these kind of [autonomous] characteristics.”

Domenicali then commented that the hybrid and electrification craze will eventually reach the super-sports car segment, but it’s still not quite there yet and it’s too expensive. I guess he’s forgotten about the McLaren P1, LaFerrari and Porsche 918 Spyder already sporting such technology.
Would you buy a hybrid or electric Lambo?
