This bonkers Lamborghini Huracán Performante has set the Nurburgring on fire.

A few days ago, Lamborghini released a video of a Huracán smashing around the Nurburgring in 6 minutes, 52 seconds. The Internet lit up about this, as it was 5 seconds a lap faster than the Porsche 918 Spyder. It is also the new production car lap record around the ‘Ring. Wow. How did the “baby” Lambo shatter the old record by such a massive margin?

Optimized high-speed aerodynamics. Yes, the black magic known as aero has been deployed and tuned for the Huracán Performante. Specifically, the car has “Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva” (ALA). Active aerodynamics mean that the way in which the car moves the air through, under and around it is optimized for both low and high speed driving. The front air dam is electronically controlled, and well as the rear air dams to optimize the car’s aerodynamic profile. Lambo says that depending on the situation, the Performante produces 750% more downforce than the standard car.

More power, which is a massive benefit on such a large race track. The Nordschleife is 12.9 miles long and has many high speed stretches. Fortunately, the 5.2L naturally-aspirated V10 has been modified to produce 640 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque. This has been accomplished via lighter internals, optimized fluid dynamics (we are guessing higher CFM and better flow), a revised exhaust and engine remap. Specifically, the power curves have been tuned so that the new engine produces 70% of max torque by 1,000RPM, aka off idle. Lambo quotes 0-100kph (62mph) times at 2.9 seconds, and 0-200kph (125mph) in 8.8 seconds.

The suspension has been revised as well. Stiffer spring rates, anti-roll bars and chassis bushings all around. Magnetorheological (MR) dampers are optional equipment. Six-piston brake calipers up front and the four-piston rear calipers work with a revised ABS that has been better calibrated for track work. Those brakes are tucked inside 20″ wheels, which are wrapped in Pirelli P Zero Corsa semi-slick tires.

Got all of that? Good. Prices start at $274,390.00, and the Performante will be available Summer of this year.
