Lamborghini Urus Lives up to the Hype, Says Doug DeMuro

By -

The Urus is selling like hot cakes, but not just because it’s a Lambo SUV. It’s also a properly fast and fun machine.

Just a few years ago, the idea of a Lamborghini SUV would have seemed like utter blasphemy. But now that virtually every automotive manufacturer is making at least one ‘ute, the Urus was purely inevitable. The good news, as auto reviewer extraordinaire Doug DeMuro points out in his video, is that it’s certainly no slouch in the numbers department.

“The numbers are amazing. 640 horsepower, 627 lb-ft of torque. 0-60 in 3.6 seconds and a starting price of around $200,000.” Impressive not only for an SUV, but for anything on four wheels. So the only question left to ask is, how does it drive? Well, for starters, it actually feels like an SUV. “The seating position is much higher than I thought it would be,” DeMuro notes. “I really like that. It feels really stable, really well put together.”

But don’t let that SUV feel fool you – the Urus is still a proper Lamborghini in the speed department. “Oh my God,” DeMuro exclaims after flooring it. “It’s so fast. That is on the next level of speed from what I thought it would be. I just drove a Porsche Cayenne Turbo and it was fast. The Bentayga is fast. But they’re fast in sort of a luxury SUV kind of way. This is fast in a Lambo way.”

Of course, no SUV is ever going to corner like a super car. But the Urus is pretty close. “It is not sports car quick,” DeMuro notes. “But it is really precise and it does do exactly what you want it to when you turn the wheel. As good as any SUV I’ve ever driven. I think this is just a fantastic vehicle.”

So in the case of the Urus, at least, the car actually lives up to the hype. And if you just have to have an SUV, it seems that you can’t do much better than this, at least for now.
