Manual Lamborghini Murcielago LP640: Unconventional, Obvious Choice

By -

In an automatic transmission-obsessed world, one man hunts down a manual Murcielago for different reasons.

A funny thing’s happened over the last decade or so in the supercar world. Cars that nobody would ever even think about buying with automatic transmissions are now essentially dominated by them. Manufacturers have built slushboxes that shift so incredibly quickly that those who stick with a stick are giving up a noticeable loss in performance. So it’s worth wondering why the guys at Daily Driven Exotics chose to buy a manual Murcielago LP640 instead of an automatic.

Dave from DDE goes into detail explaining their reasoning in this interesting video from VINwiki. And while we fully expected the typical “real enthusiasts shift their own gears” kind of response, there are many more forces at play here. The team first purchased a Huracan and built it up. But as Dave says, everybody’s got a Huracan. So when it came time to pick up a second ride, he started thinking backwards.

“I spend a lot of time looking at what everyone else is doing,” Dave explains. “Anything with a manual gearbox is more reliable than the E-gear.” And he knows this from experience, having suffered a number of problems with an auto Gallardo that he used to own. After three breakdowns and $30k in repair costs, his love for the Lambo quickly turned to loathing.

From there, choosing a Murcielago over another Gallardo was an easy choice. At least, for someone who makes a living off of social media. “The doors went up, it had that screaming V12 sound, and the cool winglet vents that open up. This is just one of the most menacing cars of my generation.”

The problem, of course, is that manual Murcielago LP640s don’t exactly grow on trees. But after a lot of hunting, DDE finally found their unicorn. And the rest, as they say, is history.
