So Long Stick Shift: XCar Reviews the Porsche 997 GT3

Like it or not, the performance world is moving away from the manual transmission. It’s troubling to a lot of people that they’ll never again see a 911 with a third pedal. Even the GT3, Porsche’s hardcore enthusiast machine, has given into the PDK onslaught. No one’s saying that dual clutch transmissions are bad—they’re actually fantastic—it’s just sad to see that aspect of the driving experience gone.

XCar takes the time to drive the crap out of the last GT3. Baby blue and armed with a clutch, this car is the end of an era for Porsche. The new era is pretty freaking sweet, admittedly, but I don’t know if it’s as rewarding.

I’m sure this is a debate that’s never going to end, just like the debate over air-cooled Porsches being the last real Porsches. Got an opinion? Let me know in the comments.
