Porsche 918 Spyder Even Faster Than Anticipated

We know the 918 is fast. Honestly, fast doesn’t really do justice to the type of speed this car has. It is undoubtedly the quickest road car Porsche has ever produced. And now, as it enters the final stages of testing, it’s gotten a little bit faster.

Autocar reports that the 918 will sprint from 0 to 60 in 2.5 seconds. That is .2 seconds quicker than the prototypes. Porsche has also seen fit to upgrade the electric motors, enabling a 0-60 sprint in 6.2 seconds without using any gas. Fast and stealthy. However, if speed is your only concern, the 918 will gladly run up to 186 mph from a dead stop in 19.9 seconds.

Out of this year’s bumper crop of super cars, the 918 is still my favorite. While it likely won’t technically be the fastest—that battle belongs to McLaren and Ferrari—the reality is that it’ll be fast enough. The thing has a combined output of 875 horsepower and is capable of getting generally fantastic gas mileage. Also something tells me the 918 will be less likely to spontaneously combust. Just a hunch.
