Porsche 918 on Nürburgring Nordschleife Home

The Porsche 918 is now the world’s fastest production car around the Nürburgring. Porsche test driver Mark Lieb yanked the Green Hell by the nostrils, achieving an elapsed Nordschleife lap time of 6:57 in the plug-in hybrid hypercar. It will be interesting to see how the competition responds … we feel World War III is looming, with Ferrari and McLaren nearing their respective battle zones. For performance enthusiasts, this is like someone has just run the first-ever four-minute mile.

Here’s what people are saying in our forums:

“Jesus Christ! I remember [when] breaking the eight-minute barrier was special.” — Ynot

“Cool! Very Cool! But what will its direct competitors do? McLaren P1 and Ferrari LaFerrari (stupidest car name ever) will certainly beat it — at least that’s what I suspect. It’s still a great achievement …” — Darth GF

“[The competition] will be lighter, [with] more horsepower, but not by a whole lot, and RWD. I wonder if traction limitations will be the deciding factor. Neither has […] the [918’s] any-surface AWD acceleration …. It is an amazing car.” — Deuuuce
