Massive GP2 Crash In Monaco

Earlier this week, Johonny Cecotto was the featured driver in our questionable racing post. The Venezuelan had gotten himself into hot water for his actions in Malaysia, and the last round in Spain. Drivers and pundits alike called for Cecotto to sit out this weekend’s activities in Monaco.

He escaped Spain without penalty.

Cecotto’s  Manaco weekend started off well as he was the fastest man in GP2 qualifying, securing pole position for today’s feature race. Everything went downhill from there.  Cecotto had a bad start from pole and his teammate took first place going into Sainte Devote. Cecotto then braked much too late in an attempt to defend his position. From there  championship contender Fabio Leimer struck the back of his car, and there was more of that to come.

The race was red-flagged. In total, 15 cars retired. And now Cecotto has been suspended for the weekend’s remaining events.

Can’t help but say, too little too late.
