McLaren 600LT is a Fire Breathing Beast
600LT improves on the 570S with more power, bigger brakes and enhanced aerodynamics.
The new McLaren 600 Longtail (LT) will make its formal debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in less than a week, but the supercar-maker has put together a great video offering a first look at the next evolution in their sport series. While it is based on the 570S, 23% of new content makes this McLaren the superior performance vehicle in every way, following in the footsteps of the 675LT and the F1 GTR Longtail.
The Edge is Calling
In the video above from the McLaren Automotive YouTube channel, we get our first good look at the 600LT, but the video starts off building anticipation. Although the video description makes it clear what we are going to see, the post-apocalyptic terrain, the shadowy lighting and the dramatic narrative pulls viewers to the edge of their seats as we all wait for the machine to burst from its dark layer.
When the 600LT finally breaks cover shortly before the one minute mark of the video, we see a supercar that looks a great deal like the 570S. The key difference here is the unique body design of the 600LT, making this car 2.9-inches longer than the 570 while also offering substantially greater aerodynamics.
The camera angle in the video is constantly changing, so we don’t get many prolonged, close-up looks at the new McLaren, but the footage offers us a quick look at just about every aspect of the supercar. We also get some great clips of fire shooting from the new exhaust system that vents up through the rear engine cover, and while big horsepower and world class aerodynamics are impressive, there is something especially cool about performance cars that shoot fire.
So far, we only have the basic details on the McLaren 600LT, but we can expect full details around the formal debut at Goodwood later this month. In the meantime, we know that the 600 has 23% unique components when compared to the 570 while the combination of the new front splitter and the rear end design lengthen the car by 2.9-inches. This car has more carbon fiber content than the 570S, it has a new forged aluminum suspension setup and it has the massive braking system from the 720S. All of which work together to cut 211.6 pounds from the 570S, bringing the curb weight to just 2,749.2 pounds.
Finally, thanks to the new exhaust system that vents up over the rear end of the car, the McLaren 600LT offers 592 horsepower and 457 lb-ft of torque, up from the 562 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque in the 570S.
With a sleeker body, less weight and more power, the McLaren 600LT will offer new levels of performance when it drops at Goodwood, but in the meantime, crank up your speakers and enjoy the teaser video above.
