McLaren P1 Pitted Against Porsche 918 Spyder in Head-To-Head
In their latest Head-2-Head video, the folks at Motor Trend put race car driver Randy Pobst behind the wheel of both the McLaren P1 and the Porsche 918 Spyder to do hot laps around Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Their goal is to see which car is the fastest.
They had also arranged a Ferrari LaFerrari for the event, but Ferrari was being their usual self and not allowing the owner of the LaFerrari to have access to lap time or technical data and support. They basically said, “nope, we won’t let you lap the car and record the times.”
Let’s just assume the LaFerrari is slower, then, and move on.
To make things fair, both cars were given fresh rubber and filled from the same gas tank. Then Randy Pobst sets out to acclimate himself with the cars and set a lap time.
I’ll let you watch to get the official times and see the final results, but it’s worth mentioning that the production 918 Spyder that they brought beat the lap time of the pre-production model they’ve used before. This car had the lightweight, $32.500 magnesium wheels that come standard with the Weissach package.
Both cars are unique in their own ways, and make their own special set of noises. If you like listening to either cars, you’ll want to crank this video up.
