As any fan of motorsport will tell you, it’s one’s dream to make it into the cockpit of a real-life racing car. That specific experience is saved only for a set of lucky few that are either good enough to be sponsored by a team, or the incredibly wealthy. This is definitely an article about the latter rather than the former.

This year at the Pebble Beach Concours de’ Elegance, McLaren showed off the concept of its track only P1 hypercar dubbed the GTR. The GTR is a one-off track only version of the already insane P1. Clients of McLaren that wanted a track only GTR already had to have a P1 and still had to shell out a further $3 million to lay claim to one.

What was missing from that debut however was, what did the car actually looked like on the inside? McLaren is billing it as a pure bred racer, but gave a scant amount of details about how the car would be setup overall. Now we have our answer.

Today, McLaren released a few more pictures of the upcoming GTR, including pictures of the interior. Like the exterior, the cockpit is all business and pure racecar.

Gone are the sport seats in favor for a set of one-piece DTM approved units both with massive bolstering and active head restraints. Additionally, the already featherweight car has further been stripped to lose another 200 lbs.

What’s most intriguing about these  new details is the new steering wheel. Taken from McLaren’s 2008 Championship winning Formula 1 car design, the new wheel is a wannabe racer’s wet dream. It looks like they really just lifted it from a Formula 1 car and stuck it in the P1.

The car is set to be built only after the last P1 leaves the assembly line in Woking, and will undoubtedly hit the tracks soon after that. Now we just need Ferrari and Porsche to get their collective acts together and build a hypercar racing series.
