More Special Edition Frozen M3s on the Way

Here I was thinking the Lime Rock M3 would be the end of BMW’s special edition binge. It isn’t. BMW is releasing three new versions of the M3 with their special Frozen paint jobs. This time, they’re available in the patriotic trio of red, white, and blue.

Like the past frozen edition edition M3’s, there are hardly any changes being made to the car’s performance. The engine remains untouched. It probably doesn’t need much touching to begin with, but for a limited edition model we’d expect a few extra horses. BMW did see fit to lower the car ten millimeters. They’ve also recalibrated the suspension for higher performance.

Clearly though, the focus is on looks. They’ve blacked out the grill and left the carbon fiber roof unpainted as well. It also comes with matte black 19 wheels and glossy black accents on the fender vents and exhaust. The interior gets an upgrade too with stitching to match the paint. It’s definitely a good looking car… I’m just not sure if it’s $76,395 worth of good looks. Aside from that, you also have to take extra precautions with the paint. Sap, bird crap, bugs, and other pollutants will damage it permanently if not cleaned up quickly. Of course, this is why race cars don’t have satin paint to begin with.

BMW is only building 150 of these special edition M3s. If the last models are any indication, then they’re probably going to sell out quickly. Honestly? As good looking as that paint is, it’s hard to justify the massive price increase. No extra power? Just paint that’ll make me hesitant to actually drive it? I guess it isn’t that big of a deal because they’re collectors items or whatever, but it just seems counter intuitive.

What do you think? Is it worth the cost of entry? Join the discussion in the forums!
