The Chevrolet Corvette has the Performance Data Recorder, and now the Ferrari F12berlinetta, 458 Speciale and LaFerrari have a similar system named Ferrari Telemetry.

What is it? Ferrari says it “allows you to monitor your car’s position and analyze its performance by recording all your driving sessions” on, or off-track while displaying the data on the instr ument cluster in real-time. Ferrari Telemetry users can also transfer their performance data via USB stick from the car to an iPad or computer for deeper telemetric analysis.

What it’s not: You can have Ferrari Telemetry with a high-resolution camera kit, but you’ll have to pay extra for it because it is only offered as an option, unlike the Corvette’s PDR that comes standard with a 720p camera and an interior-mounted microphone.

Ferrari has created this system as a consumer-grade version of the technical feedback racing drivers Fernando Alonso and Kimi Räikkönen get during competition.

Bottom line: Ferrari Telemetry should make you feel more like an F1 driver when you’re behind a steering wheel emblazoned with the Cavallino Rampante.
