If you’re a motoring enthusiast, it really is a great time to be alive. Cars making over 700 horsepower are available at your local Dodge dealership, and supercars are making in excess of 1,000 horsepower. Now, the Toroidion arrives from Finland with 1 megawatt of power. For those unaware with how much horsepower a megawatt is, that’s 1,341 horsepower.

Billed as a proof of concept, the Toroidion won’t actually see production. But the long, cold nights in Finland means engineers have a lot of time to go bonkers designing a car.

Even though the car won’t make production, the electric powertrain is extremely scalable in design. In addition, the Toroidion has a quick-swap battery technology that could be used in a variety of applications, including motorsports.

Personally, I don’t like seeing concept supercars that’ll never see production. It makes me wonder if the car is vaporware and doesn’t even work. However, the technology seems to be solid, and in the future the fastest of the fast cars will be electric.
