Porsche 911 GT2 RS Tackles Goodwood’s Legendary Hill
Ride along with Mark Higgins as he rockets a Porsche 911 GT2 RS up a hill at ludicrous speed.
For 25 years, the Goodwood Festival of Speed has brought some of the most amazing vintage and modern machinery to the beautiful confines of West Sussex, England. To celebrate, you guessed it, speed. There are a number of flagship events at Goodwood that serve as vehicles for that cause, including all manner of races. But our favorite is, and always has been, the good old fashioned hill climb. And what vehicle makes a more exciting vessel for that event than the mighty new Porsche 911 GT2 RS?
In this short but exciting clip, we get to ride along with Mark Higgins as he does exactly that. It’s a thrilling driving lesson, if nothing else. And quite the informative one. But what else would you expect when you’ve got the fastest production 911 in history at your disposal? Especially when said 911 is clad in one of the more attractive shades of blue we’ve ever laid eyes on?
But even Higgins engages the launch control at the start of his 1.16 mile jaunt. Because, as he explains, “it’s gotta be done.” Who are we to argue with that logic? The first corner is tight, but Higgins isn’t afraid to get on the power early. He hits 120 mph by the time the first bridge appears and then enters “the worst corner of the circuit,” which offers up a difficult braking point.
Survive that blind corner, and you don’t need to brake much to get through the flip wall. Coming out of the last corner at speed is critical, and Higgins does it with ease and pure confidence. Despite his admission that he’s “not feeling quite brave enough” today to do it flat out. But with a flashing performance and a beastly Porsche 911 GT2 RS at hand, we’ll forgive him this time around.
