Let Uwe Gemballa Himself Sell You a Mirage GT

Gemballa has been building incredible tuned Porsches for nearly 40 years. But this one is a little extra special.

Gemballa is one of the original Porsche tuners, cranking out aftermarket parts and turnkey supercars since 1981. But sadly, after decades of success, company founder Uwe Gemballa went missing and was subsequently found dead. Today, the German tuning company lives on, still producing a plethora of go-fast goodies and amazing tuned Porsches. But the genius of the company’s founder and namesake lives on in this incredibly cool ridealong and sales pitch in a 2007 Gemballa Mirage GT.

Based on the legendary Porsche Carrera GT, the Mirage features a quad-pipe, stainless steel exhaust system to boost horsepower to 645 ponies. It also features a number of add-ons, including a roof-mounted air intake, sport clutch, active rear wing, and carbon fiber hard top and body panels. The wheels and front fascia are also unique to Gemballa, along with the rear end and side skirts. In the end, only 25 of these exclusive rides were built.

Thus, getting to ride in one with Mr. Gemballa himself is a rare opportunity, obviously. And it’s something we’re able to do thanks to this cool throwback video. Uwe himself is more than happy to flog a customer’s yellow Mirage, which he says has “excellent throttle response.” It sure sounds nasty, too. And needless to say, he’s plenty passionate about his latest creation.

The Carrera GT is a special car in its own right. But Gemballa was able to make it even more special. It’s a feat that many tuners try to pull off,  but few succeed. And yet, Uwe Gemballa did it time and time again, creating a legacy that continues today. That, friends, is something worth remembering.
