How Do You Own A Porsche 911 GT3 For Free?
Rob Ferretti Drove A 997 GT3 10,000 Miles In Two Years And Still Came Out Ahead
If you can own any sports car for two years while getting thousands of miles of enjoyment out of it, and basically end up with your finances a wash as a result, you’re a winner in our book. That’s exactly what Mr. Ferretti did with his Porsche GT3, as he recently sold the car for a minor profit. Having spent just over $5000 in hard costs on the GT3 above and beyond the purchase price, then selling the car for $6000 more than he initially paid for the Porsche, the math works out in his favor. In this video, Rob breaks down every expense that he had regarding his former Porsche, some elective expenses and some mandatory, it still ends up being quite a positive experience for him.
While we can’t guarantee that your experience will be the same, it’s obvious that anything with a Porsche badge is blowing up lately on the secondary market. You’ll have to try really hard to lose money on a Porsche in the current market, especially with any model that has the letters ‘G’ and ‘T’ in the name. Even factoring in the insurance costs, the cost of financing some portion of the car’s purchase price, a pre-purchase inspection, and all maintenance costs for two years, Ferretti exited the deal basically in the black.
Rob then goes into some details of things he spent money on that he could have chosen not to have done, including an aftermarket stereo, and a few different aftermaket exhaust options, as well as paying for the dealer to investigate the car’s rattles before doing the research ahead of time. No matter how you shake it out, Rob either drove the car essentially for free for two years, or he paid a few cents per mile for the privilege of ownership. GT3 ownership means seat time in one of the best Porsches ever built, powered by one of Porsche’s best engines of all time, and there’s no way that can be looked at in a negative light. Try it for yourself, even if you end up a bit on the red side of the equation, you likely won’t have a complaint after the fact.
