Let’s say you’re someone who is looking to buy a race car, but can’t convince the significant other to go whole hog on a track car? That’s why Porsche creates a car like the 911 GT3 RS.

The latest version, unveiled in Geneva, is ready to attack the local racetrack and conquer vehicles way above its weight class.

The GT3 RS takes what is already a fantastic car, the 991 GT3, and cranks it up to the proverbial eleven. Powering the car is a 4.0L flat six that churns out 500 horsepower to the rear wheels.

Power is sent to the wheels through a 7 speed automated manual gearbox. Sorry, enthusiasts, the PDK is the only available transmission choice on this car.

Porsche used, for the first time ever, magnesium for the roof. Carbon fiber is used in the boot and engine lids. More lightweight material is spread throughout the car to make it lighter. How much lighter? 10 kilograms less than a regular GT3.

A bigger rear wing helps with downforce, and additional vents around the car help with cooling and airflow.

Pricing hasn’t been announced, but expect it to be higher than the current 911 GT3. How much more does Porsche think 10 kilograms and 25 horsepower? We’ll find out closer to launch.

What we do know is if you want a manual-transmission track junkie car, you’ll need to be looking at the Cayman GT4.
