Porsche 935 single-seat race car based on 911 GT2 RS, including 700 horsepower twin-turbo flat-six engine.

Rennsport Reunion VI has only just started, but Porsche has come out swinging, already. The brand has unveiled this, the ‘new’ Porsche 935. With a design based on the iconic 935 “Moby Dick” race car, this new Porsche 935 is a thorough engineering rethink yet delightful homage to the original.

Porsche describes this new 935 as a “Clubsport race car with 700 horsepower [designed for] the anniversary of 70 years of Porsche sports cars.” Despite being based upon the 991.2 GT2 RS, the new 935 has some very interesting design elements, which, again, are a blend of classic Porsche motorsport pedigree and modern engineering.

The aerodynamic package is a completely new design, and much more prominent than the already aggressive GT2 RS. This extreme bodywork pays tribute to the Porsche 935/78 Le Mans race car, which fans dubbed “Moby Dick” due to its elongated shape, massive fairings and white base color. Those front bumper openings are distinctly GT2 RS-based, however, the front fender openings are lifted from the current GT3 Porsche 911 GT3 R customer vehicle. This setup produces serious amounts of front downforce.

Naturally, the lengthened bodywork continues out back, making this 935 way longer than the current GT2 RS. Additionally, there is also a much more aggressive rear wing element, which works with that lengthened bodywork and massive rear diffuser to balance the downforce package.

The effect is epic. This is the most jaw-dropping Porsche we have seen in years. However, we would be remiss if we didn’t point out one of our favorite features: the turbine-fin wheels with aero caps. That is pure late-70s, early 80s goodness.

Inside, the largely carbon fiber interior is all business. A racing-derived carbon fiber steering wheel is jam-packed with controls. A GT3 R-inspired roll cage keeps the single occupant safe, and, interestingly, this race car seems to feature air-conditioning. A second seat for passengers is an available optional extra.

Underneath, the 935 largely features GT2 RS components. We mentioned the powertrain, a 3.8-liter twin-turbo 700 horsepower flat-six, is lifted from the GT2 RS, as is the seven-speed PDK transmission. That is fed by a 30-gallon racing fuel cell system with a safety cut-off.

Chassis-wise, it’s also very GT2 RS-based, with six-piston monoblock brake calipers up front with 380-millimeter steel discs, and four-piston rear calipers with 355-millimieter discs. Three-way adjustable racing dampers control wheel movement, as does the spherical bearing racing suspension arms. The 935 also comes equipped with Porsche Stability Management (PSM), which includes traction control and anti-lock brakes (ABS). A map switch system means each individual driving aide can be configured or turned off independently. Oh, and don’t forget the motorsport-grade air jack system, for those quick tire changes at the local track day.

Pricing starts at 701,948, which, by our math, means it’ll ring in around $800,000 USD, give or take. Remember, just 77 examples are being made, so you better hurry to your local dealer to grab an allocation.
