Porsche GT3 RS Rips Around Abu Dhabi’s Yas Marina Circuit

Porsche Club UAE hosts track day event at famed Formula 1 circuit.

Unless you’re lucky enough to travel there, the United Arab Emirates may seem like a foreign, far-away place. Fortunately, car enthusiasts like SAF Motorsport post cool videos like this online, making the world a slightly smaller place, after all. This video takes place at a Porsche Club UAE track day at the famed Yas Marina circuit.

The camera car is a silver Porsche 911 991 GT3 RS. With a 520 horsepower, 4.0-liter naturally-aspirated flat-six, it sounds glorious as the exhaust note echoes off the high walls of the circuit.

For a solid few minutes, there is nothing but the cacophonous wail of that flat-six as its pilot wrings the car out on track. Periodically, a yellow Cayman GTS is in sight, but the two manage to keep things spread out. After all, an open track is a fast track.

This was then broken up by another GT3 RS, whose driver seemed to have no concept of performance driving beyond mashing the gas in a straight line. For the next minute or so, the video car is all over this other RS, in the braking zones, and in the corners. In fact, there are a few noble attempts at passing mid-corner, which is brave with $200,000 sports cars with new paint jobs. Fortunately, the other RS driver realizes they are outmatched and allow for a pass.

The silver GT3 RS camera car continues to thrash around the stunning Yas Marina circuit until the driver unexpectedly loses control of their ride.  After a few more corners, with the car exhibiting a new leery personality, the driver pits in and finds a not-so fun surprise.

Perhaps it’s from the aggressive curbing of the circuit, but the rear tires on this GT3 RS both has curt sidewalls, just against the bead of the wheel. Fortunately, the driver caught this before a blow out occurred, but it still signaled the end of the day. Hopefully they return to Yas Marina soon and get more video. Watching privateers run this track seems to be more fun than watching F1 these days…
