Porsche Unveils the 991 Carrera 4 and 4S

Porsche has finally pulled the covers off their next installment in the 911 lineage. The exquisite Carrera 4 is now here.

The biggest change is, obviously, the inclusion of all wheel drive. New for the 991 is an indicator light in the dash that’ll tell you where the all-wheel-drive system is currently putting power. That means you can see exactly which tires are being obliterated into smoke when you’re laying out full throttle power-slides through the swiss alps. Of course, it could also help figure out which wheels are stuck if for some reason you decide to go off roading a-la the 4×4 Coupe of olde.

Physically, the biggest change is a wider backside. The distinction is slight, but noticeable. Also, the light bar between the two tail lights makes a return from the 997 as well.

The engine remains unchanged from the base model Carrera and Carrera S. It’s 3.4L, 350hp flat six will propel the coupe to 60 mph in a tick over 4 seconds, while the 400 hp 3.8L Carrera 4 S will do it in 3.9 seconds.

We’re already well aware that the 991 is an amazing car to drive, and really we don’t expect the Carrera 4 to be anything less than excellent. If you’re in the market for a new 911, the base model Carrera 4 will set you back $91,030. The Carrera 4S will cost $102,930.
