Thinly Veiled 991 Turbo Caught on Tape

Porsche is always testing cars. Always. That’s why it’s not shocking when “spy” photos of their cars show up on the internet, but more reassuring. It’s how we know they’re ok. The latest model to be seen running around is the much anticipated 991 Turbo model. But instead of the normal stills we’re used to getting, this time there’s video. And video, means sound.

It’s just puttering around on the streets, but that’s still more than you’ll get from a picture. Underneath all of that black is a 3.8L flat-six that’ll likely be pushing 530hp. It’ll be getting that power from a brand new tri-turbo system. While that may sound like a plumbing nightmare (which it probably is), it’ll allow Porsche to increase the total amount of boost, while maintaining a fast spool. Fast spooling, means low end torque and linear power delivery. The only worry might be in regard to responsiveness, but Porsche seems to have that figured out. Boost lag might’ve made the 930 a widow maker, but those days are long gone.

If you’re hungry for specs, you’ll just have to wait until Porsche officially unveils the car. In the mean time, you can familiarize yourself with the current 911 thanks to the extremely in-depth review at New Car Test Drive. Check out the video below.
