Watch Switzer's Red Katana GT-R go 8.9 in the Quarter

Any way you cut it, 8.9 seconds in the quarter mile is absurdly fast. Factor in that Switzer’s Red Katana is 300 lbs overweight, and you have to wonder whether they’re using some kind of black magic to get it to move with such gusto. They don’t, of course. But they do use lots and lots of boost.

Despite being a plushly appointed street car, Switzer’s R1KX makes 1300hp on race gas. That number goes down to a measly 1000hp when using regular fuel. I mean, come on, that’s only on par with a Veyron. Sheesh. Clearly they need to step it up.

Looking back, Nissan’s early claims of making the GT-R “untunable” are amusing now. I can’t help but think the only reason they said something like that was to challenge the aftermarket to take Godzilla to a different level. It’s not exactly slow from the factory either. The fact that AMS, Switzer, and Boostlogic are bypassing 1000hp regularly is a testament to their capabilities of both the tuners and the GT-R.
