Porsche GT3 is Restrained Performance Compared to the GT2 RS

Jakub and Yuri from The Straight Pipes believe the GT3 is the most classic feeling 911 GT.

Jakub and Yuri are two Canadian YouTubers who host The Straight Pipes channel dedicated to enthusiasts. In this video, they examine two special editions of the 911 range. Porsche’s GT3 is the main highlight, with a guest appearance and comparison to the impressive GT2 RS.

Painted in special color option “Chalk,” this GT3 is an impressive performer. Being one of the few naturally-aspirated 911’s, it stands unique among the range, especially with its atmospheric 9,000 RPM red line. Yuri chimes in with a bit of information that will be a welcome change for the purists. He says, “Porsche brought back the manual for the GT3 and in fact, your only transmission optionĀ in the GT3 with the Touring package is a manual.”

Like it or not, the PDK is faster. Launch control makes the GT3 unbelievably quick. Yuri notes “You need to have ideal conditions for a solid launch with launch control because there’s so much power.” 500 horsepower, in fact. Although the torque is a bit lower at 339. But compared to the GT2 RS

Obviously the GT2 is a different beast all together. But aside from the power plant, some differences are worth noting. Mainly, the extensive use of weight savings material. Carbon fiber is used everywhere possible, and even stickers are used in place of badges for those few ounces. It’s obsessive, but it’s also wild given it throws 700 horsepower solely at the rear axle. Jakub notes, “the GT2 RS is the redneck GT… well, if that redneck was a NASA scientist.”

Don’t think that the GT3 is soft, though, just soft in comparison to the GT2 RS. The edition they are in doesn’t even have a sport mode, nor does it have an exhaust mode like the Carrera T to change the note. Rather just a button to put the PDK into sport mode and another to make the exhaust louder. Essentially the GT3 is always in “sport mode” and that’s the whole point, isn’t it?
