RUF Takes a Shot at the Boxster with 3800S

We’ve made the argument before that the Boxster – and by extension, the Cayman – have the potential to best the 911. It’s handling is sublime, but it lacks power. Leave it RUF to turn our musings into a relative reality with the 3800S.

RUF has dumped the 3.4 flat six and dropped in the 3.8 liter mill from the 991 Carrera S. They’ve managed to eek out 420 horsepower and 331 ft-lbs of torque from it. That’s actually about 20 hp more than what you’d get in the 991 S. Clearly, the RUF won’t be outrunning the new GT3, but it’ll be doing pretty damn good.

More power is always a good thing, but RUF has also changed to looks as well. As is their style, the changes to the bumpers, wheels and diffusers are tasteful. Unlike RUF’s other offerings, this isn’t a total conversion. You’ll be able to mod your Boxster or Cayman into the 3800S. Tempting isn’t it?
