Italian officials have been struggling to crack down on tax evaders for years. Recently, they determined that one effective method was to pull supercars over and check the tax records of the drivers. They found that one in six drivers were reporting incomes well below what they actually made. So now Italians are scared to buy supercars and it has hit Ferrari and Lamborghini sales hard. For example, Ferrari sold 685 Ferraris to their home market in 2010, but in 2012 they sold just 248.
