Track Test: 2014 Corvette Stingray VS 2014 Porsche Cayman S
In the final installment of the “Corvette versus the World” Edmunds track test battles, the C7 Corvette meets the 2014 Porsche Cayman S. Despite a 135-horsepower deficit to the Corvette, the Porsche proves itself a worthy adversary in straight-line performance.
Let’s run through the figures: 0-60 in 4.4 seconds for the Porsche; 4.1 seconds for the Corvette. The Cayman S completed the 1/4 mile in 12.8 seconds at 108.8 mph; the Corvette did it in 12.4 seconds at 113.7 mph.
In braking and handling tests, the cars were still very close. The Porsche stopped from 60 mph in 101 feet; the ‘Vette stopped two feet shorter, and also beat the Cayman S in the slalom by 1.2 mph (73.5 versus 72.3). The Cayman S pulls 1.0g through the skid pad; the Corvette pulls 1.05g.
Which car felt better in the handling tests? The Porsche, as you probably imagined.
Starting price for the C7 Corvette: $54,795. Starting price for the Cayman S: $63,800. As tested, the Corvette cost $69,375, and the Cayman S went up an income bracket to $87,485. Optioning both cars to 72 grand, which one would you rather have? That’s an easy question when it comes to Corvette versus 911, but what about Corvette versus Cayman S?
