TUSCC Race Recap: Six Hours at the Glen

The third of four rounds in the Tequila Patron North American Endurance cup was run at the Finger Lakes area Watkins Glen International. The race was action packed from flag to flag. Tire attrition and contact were factors throughout the six hour event.

The Prototype class saw the No. 90 Spirit of Daytona Corvette DP of Richard Westbrook and Michael Valiante take the win. The OAK Racing No. 42 Nissan Morgan LMP of Gustavo Yacaman, Alex Brundle, and Ho-Pin Tung. Third place went to the No. 5 Action Express Racing Corvette DP of Joso Barbosa, Christian Fittipaldi, and Burt Frisselle. The Taylor brothers of Wayne Taylor Racing managed to come home fifth with the help of Michael Angelelli. The fifth place finish keeps the Taylors in the overall points lead.

In Prototype Challenge, the No. 54 CORE Autosport machine of Jonathan Bennett, Colin Braun, and James Gue dominated, extending the team’s class points lead. The No. 88 BAR1 Motorsports car driven by Martin Plowman, David Cheng, and Doug Bielefeld took second, holding off a challenge from the No. 52 PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports car of Frankie Montecalvo and Gunnar Jeannette.

The GTLM Corvettes are proving to be dominating this season. Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen took the win and the points lead in the No. 3 Corvette C7.R. The No. 91 and No. 93 SRT Viper GTS-R’s finished second and third respectively thanks to the double stints of Marc Goossens and Jonathan Bomarito, who shared seat time in both cars, joining Dominik Farnbacher in the 91 and Kuno Wittner in the 93.

The GTD class saw Dane Cameron and Markus Palttala take the win in the No. 94 Turner Motorsports BMW Z4. The No. 555 Aim Autosport Ferrari 458 Italia of Townsend Bell and Bill Sweedler held off the Magnus Racing No. 44 Porsche 911 GT America of Andy Lally, John Potter, and Sebastian Asch.

The next round will be run at the Canadian Tire Motorsports Park for the Mobil 1 Sportscar Grand Prix Presented by Hawk Performance.

The event is scheduled for 2 hours and 45 minutes on the 2.459 road course. The Prototype, GTLM, and GTD classes will be competing.
