Leadership Shakeup at Volkswagen Group

Sometimes, things just don’t go as planned. For instance VAG’s new MQB platform that is supposed to underpin a series of models to cut costs for the automaker over the coming years.

It was supposed to be a smooth transition, but reality quickly came in and smacked everyone in the face. That error has claimed one of VAG’s executives who was in charge of the project, Michael Macht.

Macht was part of the Board of Management of Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft with “the responsibility of Group Production,” or in other words, he was the lead guy overseeing the transition of a few of VAG’s plants for the MQB platform.

Of late, the Wolfsburg plant that is supposed to be churning out the new Golf has come under scrutiny due to work converting the plant halting production progress leading to this departure.

With the press release stating it was a mutual agreement, you should probably read that it was agreed upon at higher levels then Macht, who was then told they had all agreed he should leave.

The interim head of Group Production will be Thomas Ulbrich who headed the passenger car segment from the same Board. We’ll see if he’s up to snuff, VAG has a lot riding on the smooth introduction of this platform. They’ve invested millions and the company’s entire future into it, it really has to work.
