Drifting the Toyota 2000GT Makes any Day Better
Japan’s first supercar, the Toyota 2000GT, is rarer than the LFA… Lexus built 500 of those, whereas Toyota only built 351 examples of the 2000GT.
Last year, RM Auctions sold the yellow car below for $1,155,000. So not only is the 2000GT rarer than its LFA grandchild, it’s also more expensive.
Because of its rarity and sky-high market value, your chances of seeing one getting hooned to sanity’s edge are about as good as your chances of getting a date with Emma Watson.
Thank goodness for YouTube because there is a video from what looks like the early 90s that shows almost six minutes of the Toyota 2000GT getting manhandled on its skinny tires just as Toyota engineers of the 60s intended. Listen closely, and you can hear the car’s 150-horsepower, 2.0-liter Yamaha inline-six screaming for more abuse as though it were the center of attention at an S&M party.
