Viper Will Not Return to Le Mans in 2014

2014 Vipers
The SRT Motorsports team has announced that they have withdrawn their two car entry in the 2014 French endurance racing classic.

The two, factory backed, Vipers were to compete in the GTE-PRO class.

This decision to withdraw from Le Mans comes just days after the announcement that the Detroit based Viper production facility would be closed for a minimum of three months due to poor first quarter sales figures.

This leaves just three teams representing America and the TUDOR United Sports Car Championship at Le Mans next month.  The Porsches of Dempsey Racing-Patron, The Ferrari’s of 8Star Motorsports, and the two cars of Corvette Racing will attack the Mulsanne straight this year.

No decision has been made public about SRT Motorsports’ future in the TUSCC as of yet.

SRT Motorsports currently sits in the top three in the TUSCC points standings. The team lost a car in a fiery crash at the 12 hours of Sebring last weekend.  So far both SRT Motorsports Vipers are among those entered in the Tequila Patron Sports car Showcase at Long Beach next month.
