Want A McLaren F1, But Have A Tight Budget? This Center-seat 997 Is Your Answer!

It’s a plight that affects us all. We want a McLaren F1 in the driveway, but we don’t really have the cash to fork over for England’s finest. However, if you have a little over $50,000 lying around, you can get your own center-seat Porsche.

In theory it should be easy: just move the driver’s seat over to the right about one foot. However, adjusting all of the HVAC tubing, wiring for the info systems and making the floor pan flat takes time and patience. In addition, they have added that little roll-hoop for the new seat belt buckle hardware to be mounted.

The work to get all of this done must have been pretty extensive, and you have to wonder about the mindset of a person who’d cut up a low mileage (15,836mi at time of sale) 997. But the car isn’t butchered at all. All of the carbon fiber work looks extremely well done, actually. The fit and finish looks above what you’d expect for a one-off.

Being only half a seat over, drive-through windows probably aren’t hard to reach, and usability seems only affected by the extra leap to get to the seat. But this leaves one big question: is the driver’s side on the left or right?
