It's usually a very mild squeak with light brake pressure when almost stopped. Its intermittent and I can definitely live with it. I'll not go back to the shims because I think they're too much trouble. You might try skipping them next time just to try it out, especially if you're headed to the track and changing pads on a regular basis.

I was reading somewhere in another thread that people are filing the leading and trailing edge of the pads to a 45 degree angle and that stops the squealing. If I was more motivated, I'd love to try it out. Supposedly it works with no impact on the braking.

I'm still really impressed with the stopping ability. Supposedly the new yellow compound lasts forever and is very gentle on rotors. They're expensive pads, but seem to be the best of both worlds. If you could make the squealing stop, there would be no sacrifice at all.

They stop like nothing but squeal like pigs, make no mistake about that.
I still get embarrassed one year later.

Yes, filing a 45 is what Craig at www.Rennstore.com said to do - made a BIG difference on my 996TT.

Best of both worlds - the pads are awesome, long lasting, and the noise about 90% reduced.
Dust comes right off and has never eaten away at anything .... unlike other pads I had.

I wish I had known about filing the pads. Next time... I'm far too lazy to deal with that for now

Next time. I just don't have the patience to go out and do it myself. I will do it for sure when they need replacing!

Our PCA season starts next month I think. I'll be there for sure whenever it is. Hopefully I don't burn these up too. Not really wanting to shell out 8K for a big brake upgrade.

Add 2 sources of cooling + Motul + Pagids and you should be just fine -

Your car has enough brakes for at least 3-4 years of DE learning curve. Mine was something like: 1 year with stock sport pads, stock rotors, stock cooling, stock fluid. 2 years with pagid endurance pads, stock rotors, GT3 scoops, ATE or Motul fluid. 1 year with aggressive Pagid or PFC pads, solid dimpled/slotted rotors, GT3 cup scoops, SRF fluid. And I'm STILL not using 100% of my brakes.

IMO, a big brake kit on a street/track 996 is a big waste of money.

Your car probably isn't supercharged with an upgraded suspension and tires I'm no track star by any means but I was getting point by's from stock TT's. I'm running my car a little harder than what the factory brakes/power/suspension were setup to handle. I've improved the car, save for the brakes which has turned out to be a mistake and I'm paying for it now.

I blew my master cylinder the first time out. Possibly heat related. No one is sure.

I managed to go through almost an entire set of stock pads and boiled my fluid another day.

Clearly the stock pads are not cutting it for my application.

I can totally see that. Jumping from 400 to 700 horsepower probably fries even the stock TT brakes at the track.

Hell, jumping from 400 to 420 does it when pushed hard. The brakes are jsut TOO DAMN SMALL, very disappointing to me.
