1986 911 Maintenance

A friend of mine is interested in a used 1986 911 and is concerned with realiability and maintenance costs. Can anyone reflect on this specific to the MY? The car has 150K and is going for around $12,500. Thanks for any help.

At that price you better beware of cost to get it up to being road worthy.
Always get a PPI done.

Thats a very broad question if you are asking for that particular car. There could be a lot of things needing attention right from the start on a car that is priced low.

As far as buying a good car to start, and what might be the cost to maintain it?....theres nothing the normal tlc wont keep in order. Check and change fluids on schedule. But these cars can be very expensive if something needs to be replaced. A good thing to do is have a stash of around $5,000 for any repairs that might pop up. This is wise to have even after a car gets a good PPI.

People think they can pick up a Impact-Bumper car for cheap when they see some in the $13,000 and under price range, but I can assure you......you get what you pay for. If you really want something reliable with low costs....plan to spend $16000 to $29,000 on cars from 1978 to 1989.

I think I have spent more on cleaners and wax than I have for anything else for the last couple years.
